Acupuncture Questions

Does Acupuncture really work?

Does Acupuncture hurt?

More and more people are starting to see the natural healing benefits of Acupuncture, however we still get many questions about this ancient therapy that we will answer today!

Does Acupuncture actually work?
Yes, there is an increasing number of research that proves the natural therapies effectiveness and it is being used progressively in America in conjunction with Western medicine. Acupuncture has been proven to treat conditions ranging from depression to hypertension to induction of labor. The University of San Diego School of Medicine conducted case control studies that have a full list of conditions that Acupuncture can help with here.
However, it is important to keep in mind acupuncture should not be used as a cure all. Since acupuncture is completely natural with little to none side effects, it can be used in conjunction with any other treatment you are receiving or any current prescriptions or pain medications you’re taking. Acupuncture has actually helped our patient’s decrease their dosage of pain medications or stop their reliance all together.
Does Acupuncture hurt?
Nope! Acupuncture needles are extremely thin. Some patients are so comfortable they fall asleep during their treatments! The most pain you may feel is a dull ache at the base of the needle when inserted or a slight tingling sensation. If it is your first time getting acupuncture, you may feel light soreness following your treatment. This is normal and usually subsides the day after.
It’s also extremely safe. It is an all-natural, drug free therapy, yielding no side effects and is virtually painless. Only sterile needles are used and are discarded after each use. However, it is important to use a licensed, trusted professional whom you trust. It is advised to research acupuncturists in your area and set up a meeting with your potential provider. As with any medical professional, it is important that you feel comfortable and safe in his/her presence!
How many treatments will I need?
It depends from patient to patient, condition to condition. Some patients with an acute condition see a drastic improvement after the first visit while others with more chronic conditions take a few weeks or months to feel improvement. It is important to stay consistent with your treatments in order to see steady results. We usually recommend patients to come twice a week in the beginning and as your conditions start improving, decrease to once a week, to none at all. We like to compare it to exercise, the more consistent you are with treatments, the better your results will be.
Will my insurance cover for my treatment?
We accept all insurances as long as you have acupuncture benefits with your plan. Worker Compensation and Car Accident claims are also welcome. For more information on the policies we accept and how to check go here.

I have had severe pain near my hip for the past several months (very sudden onset). I saw 3 Orthopedic specialists; all of whom could not identify the cause of the pain. When in doubt, hip replacement surgery - what???? A friend recommended Dr Ji at East West Wellness. I walked into the office using a cane and I walked out without it. Dr Ji gave me immediate relief. This is an ongoing process; not an overnight solution. I look forward to being pain free one day, with Dr Ji's help (and without surgery!!). The Wellness Center offers lots of treatment options, which I really appreciate. The support staff is super - friendly and professional. I highly recommend this group.

Professional and courteous staff in a clean and spacious environment. Most important, their electro-acu with cupping treatment worked for me. I came in for my persistent acne problem and lower back pain. Already felt sustained improvements after first couple visits. Highly recommend Dr. Hongji and massage therapist Linda.

My daughter has excruciating neck pain and back pain and a complicated medical history. I cannot even begin to say how much East West Acupuncture has helped her. I tried many different western traditional options but nothing worked as well as Dr. Ji. She is caring and listens and has helped her tremendously.

I always have back pain, in the lower and tailbone region. As I got older the pain got worse. Once I sneezed and couldn't move my back for a few days well. I tried acupuncture but didn't like the waiting for the needling insertion part. However, it worked as I felt my muscle knots were being loosed with electrical stimulation and heat therapy. i"m glad I found this place and will continue to try other therapies they offer.

I like this place because it is spacious, unlike many other acu places which feels cramped. I tried a few therapists here they all have their own style. I find the treatment here calming and relaxing. They seem to get busy here but I find that I'm accomdated for and taken care of like family. Thank you.

Highly recommended. The environment was clean and I felt safe. I continue to receive 5 star treatment from East West Wellness Center. They have helped me in many ways. One example: I had a red, inflamed and painful stye on my eye. I shared this with the Dr. The Dr. told me she could help. After working on my ear and after one visit then my eye was a lot better. By my 2nd visit my eye was back to normal. Looking forward to my next visit.

In August of 2007, I was involved in a serious car accident. For many years I have suffered from cervical, lumbar, thoracic, and shoulder pain, sciatica, allergies, asthma, and insomnia. In September of 2016, I sought out acupuncture as a means to control or eliminate the pain. After doing some research and contacting Dr. Ji, acupuncturist at East West Wellness Center, things changed and may I say for the better. Dr. Ji listened to me, and she took what I told her and customized a treatment plan for ME! Dr. Ji also took the time to explain that acupuncture does not hurt, as that was one of my fears as it would be for a lot of people. (Just close your eyes and relax and you will not feel a thing.) After a few visits, things started to become a little clearer. I continued to return as the benefits from acupuncture were so much more than I expected.Dr. Ji, as a doctor, mother, and wife, you are one of the nicest and most compassionate individuals I have met in a long time. Acupuncture is not a well-known therapy in this part of the world, but hopefully with a little education, people will start recognizing that it does work and can be used in conjunction with other holistic and western medicine to help people in multiple areas of their lives. I look forward to going to acupuncture and enjoying my time for treatments. To Dr. Ji and her wonderful staff: Thank you so much for all that you have done for me.Grateful,Shirley Miree

For many years I’ve been hesitant on doing acupuncture. But after talking many folks in the area about how western medicine fail to heal my eczema, a few of them highly recommended I go to East west wellness center. So I thought I give it a try. I started my first session in Jan 2020, and I have to say I was super nervous and scared for the first session. But my doctor, Stacey, who was assigned to me was very caring and careful. After the first needle went in, I realized I had nothing to worry about since I barely felt a thing. The clinic is very clean. I was very surprised and the staff was extremely nice and nurturing. When they asked about my problem, they really tried to help me solve the core issue instead of trying to sell me on doing acupuncture. I remember during the consultation, they said I might not need it if they can figure out if my lifestyle (food I eat, activities I do) had something to do with my bad eczema. But here I am, 10 acupuncture sessions in and my eczema has gotten significantly better. My arms and body and back all used to be bright red, but now they are all back to normal. I have a few more sessions left but I’m feeling great already!

Whenever my back goes out, which is often, I go to East West Wellness Center for a quick fix up. They're a very busy clinic and managing day to day seems hectic; but they always seem to do a really good job of getting people in and out. My back feels good and people are friendly and professional. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone.

The place is a relaxing calm! It feels so good that we forget everything that happens outside. I was there for a plantar reflexology session, it lasted 30 minutes and it went very well. They offer many other types of massages and treatments, accupuncture, etc. The rates are correct, no need to make an appointment necessarily, and there is plenty of parking outside. Only downside, it's a bit far.
